International Masters Qualifying Program

Completion of an Accelerated International Masters Qualifying Program (MQP) provides access to specific postgraduate programs at Charles Darwin University.

Overview

The course focuses on developing academic knowledge and skills, including acculturation to studying Business and IT in Australia, English for postgraduate studies and critical thinking. The course will help you achieve the CDU graduate quality outcomes and reflect the values of CDU.

Successful completion of this course at Waterfront Darwin Campus allows you to gain direct entry to most postgraduate programs at CDU Casuarina Campus (Northern Territory).

A candidate must successfully complete 4 units totalling 40 credit points (cp) over one semester as detailed below. All units are compulsory, are taught concurrently and are valued at 10 credit points each.

Students are expected to spend 12-13 hours per week on each unit over a 12-week teaching period. This includes lectures, tutorials, reading, independent and group study and contact with staff members. However, additional time will be needed depending on the entry level of a student’s English language skills.

Each unit is timetabled for five hours face to face classes per week: two hours of lectures, two hours of tutorials and one hour of guided pre-reading.

International tuition fees

The annual tuition fee for full time study is AUD $14,455

These fees are subject to increases annually, effective at the start of each calendar year.

2024 Pathway Scholarships

Standard Scholarship of up to 20% tuition fee are available for all pathway programs.

Merit Scholarship of up to 30% tuition fee are available for pathway programs (excluding ELICOS Program).

No application is required as applicants are automatically assessed after submitting their application to a course within the CDU International College. The scholarships are for all pathway applicants from all regions.

Admission criteria: 

  • Completion of a higher education program equivalent to AQF Level 6 advanced diploma or associate degree
 

English language requirements:

To gain entry into CDU International College, all applicants must satisfy the English Language Proficiency Requirements for their chosen course of study. International applicants will be required to supply evidence of this at the time of application.

IELTS Academic ModuleA minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.
Cambridge Advanced English (CAE)A minimum overall score of 169, with no skill below 162.
Common European Framework Certificate of English ProficiencyA minimum overall grade of B2.
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic moduleA minimum overall score of 50 with no score lower than 42.
TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT)A minimum overall score of 60 with a minimum score of 18 for reading, speaking and listening and a minimum score of 21 for writing.

* All tests are valid for two years from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU International College, unless otherwise specified.
* Where applicable, international applicants must also satisfy the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) English language requirements for student visa applications.

Sample course progression

Accelerated Masters Qualifying Program (MQP) finishing in June articulate into Masters degrees starting in Year 1 – Semester 2 (July).

Accelerated Masters Qualifying Program (MQP) finishing in November or February articulate into Masters degrees starting in Year 2 – Semester 1 (March).

Postgraduate Entry Requirements from Accelerated MQP

Students must pass all units with a grade of 50% or higher to successfully complete the Accelerated International Masters Qualifying Program (MQP), and gain direct entry to the following postgraduate programs at Charles Darwin University.
